evrydaystronger-deactivated2011 asked: SO I was at a wedding yesterday and as I was surrounded by a plethora of "comfort food" and desserts..you actually popped into my head. You're in SUCH good shape. I was wondering what you would have done in my situation. Do you ever indulge and eat cake and thigns or would you have found a way to try to eat healthy??
Wow! I’m so touched that you thought of me at that moment! So glad to be able to inspire you on such a level. That really means a lot to me. You bring up a really important point. Here’s the thing. About 90% of our lives are spent in our ordinary, day-to-day routine. We wake up, go to school/work, hang out with friends/family, do our chores/activities, surf tumblr, then we go to sleep and do it all over again the next day. For that 90% of the time, it’s a good idea to keep a balanced, healthy diet (especially if you’re trying to lose weight) of veggies, lean protein, complex carbs, some fruits & nuts, lots of water etc. But there’s also 10% of our lives spent during special occasions - weddings, big celebrations, vacations, etc. If you eat clean during the 90% of your daily life, I think it’s okay to indulge during the 10% that is special occasions but only if you’ve earned it. I tend to eat clean most of the time. I avoid sugar, simple carbs, junk food, fried food, alcohol, etc. I also work-out 5-6 days a week. Since I do that 90% of the time, I don’t feel too bad when I have the occasional pizza, ice cream or chocolate. It’s kind of like clothes. You have ordinary clothes (jeans, shirts, sweaters, etc) that you wear on a daily basis 90% of the time. Then you have fancy outfits (dresses, gowns, jewelry, nice shoes, etc) that you only wear on special occasions. The same goes for how you eat. There’s nothing wrong with splurging every now and then if you’re clean most of the time. People just get into trouble when they splurge too much and too often, but you don’t have to live like a monk. Furthermore, when I indulge, I make sure it’s worth it. Instead of wasting my calories on crap food, I always go for quality. For example, if I’m craving a hamburger, there’s no way I’d go to McD’s. Instead, I’ll have a steakburger from a real steakhouse. Instead of cheap Hershey’s chocolate (which is mostly just sugar and very little cocoa), I’ll go for real, dark chocolate made by a chocolatier. The way I see it, if I’m going to indulge, I’d rather indulge with the best or else it would just be a waste. Hope this helps. Thanks again for thinking of me and I hope you had a nice time at the wedding. Take care!
